True Life Story of Candy Montgomery Premieres on Hulu

Hulu premieres “Candy” on the 9th of May and it so happens that this show is based on a real-life event. It is based on the story of Candy Montgomery, the housewife who killed her friend Betty after having an affair with her husband, by stabbing her with an axe 41 times.

Candace “Candy” Montgomery was born and raised in Texas. On the 13th of June, 1980, Candy may have murdered her friend, Betty, in their hometown in Texas.

Candace Montgomery got married to Pat Montgomery and they raised two children together. She was a housewife and was mostly described by other people as friendly, cheerful, and innocent looking.

She struck up a friendship with Betty at church, getting the other woman to like and trust her, and then eventually having an affair for many months with Betty’s husband, Allan Gore.

How did Candy meet Allan?

Candy and Allan met in 1978 at a volleyball game during an event organized by the church.

They got to know each other and started meeting secretly- after some time Candy realized she was becoming more attracted to him and less to her husband.

Months after their affair had been going on, Betty had another baby and Allan told Candy he wanted to focus on his marriage and put a stop to the affair.

One day after Allan went on a business trip, he tried calling home to his wife Betty but she neither picked up the phone calls nor returned the calls. It was later discovered that the mum of two was hit with an axe 41 times.

During the investigation, Allan admitted to the police about having an affair with Betty and she automatically became the prime suspect.

She was arrested later after being accused of Betty’s murder, and the case ended up in court.

Candy claimed she only killed Betty in self-defence when Betty found out about the affair with her husband and tried to kill her with the axe. The jury found her not guilty of murder and she was later acquitted of the charge.

Is Candy Montgomery still alive?

It is believed that Candy Montgomery is still alive today, although her whereabouts remain unknown. She reportedly works as a mental health therapist in Georgia.

Hulu’s soon to be released show is based on her life.
