Who designed the Theranos building?
The building was designed by Studios Architecture for Stanford Real Estate. Completed in September 2014, 1701 Page Mill Road is a total of 116,000 square feet and is made up of two stories and a below-ground parking garage.
One wildly coincidental detail about the property where Stanford Real Estate chose to build is that it was the former site of a Wall Street Journal printing press facility, which is the publication that exposed Theranos in 2015.
The property received the Gold Nugget Grand Award for Best Commercial Project at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference in 2016.
Medicine took over the property’s lease. While Stanford owns the land on which the property stands, however, the current rent of the property remains undisclosed to the common public.
What is the Theranos building used for today?
In 2019, different institutions and researchers took over some of the emptied offices for various purposes.
A remodelling project commenced in 2020.
While Theranos has left the premises and ceased operations, the basic infrastructure of its office space still stands and serves as a reminder of one of the greatest downfalls of a company in Silicon Valley.
The Theranos building is featured in Hulu’s The Dropout and fans have become curious about what it used to be and what it is now.
The headquarters was a place where Elizabeth Holmes would majorly be seen. And this has made many fans of the show curious about the history and the architecture of this place.
The Dropout aired for the first time on the 3rd of March 2022 and viewers have remained glued to their screens ever since.
The drama stars Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes and tells her story from when she was a young teenager up until adulthood.
Before now, there have been other documentaries on Theranos including popular HBO’s documentary, The Inventor: Out For Blood In Silicon Valley.
The Inventor was a documentary that investigated the rise and fall of Theranos, using evidence from insiders.
Today, the original building of Theranos remains. It was however announced in May 2018 that the Stanford University School of Medicine would become the new renters of the building.
