Nightbirde Passes From Cancer, at Age 31

Ohio-based singer and former America’s Got Talent contestant, Jane Marczewski- popularly known by her stage name Nightbirde, has passed away at the age of 31, from breast cancer.

Nightbirde had been battling with this disease for the past four years and on Saturday, 19th of February 2022, she lost the battle.

The singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and after she had gotten treatment, the disease returned but had spread into different parts of her body- including her lungs, liver and spine.

Nightbirde became popular in the 2021 edition of America’s Got Talent when she wowed the audience and judges with her own original song “it’s okay” which she rendered so beautifully that she got a wonderful applause and standing ovation, along with the Golden Buzzer, pressed by Simon Cowell.

At the audition, all four judges attested that Nighbirde indeed had a captivating voice and that she appeared to be strong even though she was going through a lot.

She replied to that with, “You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy”.

Since that time, a YouTube video of this audition has garnered over 41 million views, and her recently released song has been doing well on the charts on iTunes.

The Golden Buzzer is used when all four of the America’s Got Talent judges are moved and absolutely impressed by a contestant.

The golden buzzer automatically sends the contestant to the live show and so Nightbirde quickly moved on the live show.

However, in August 2021, she had to withdraw from the competition after her health took a turn for the worse.

On her Instagram, she said “My health has taken a turn for the worse and the fight with cancer is demanding all of my energy and attention. I am so sad to announce that I won’t be able to continue forward on this season of AGT. Life doesn’t always give breaks to those that deserve it—but we knew that already.”

Since her passing, the internet has been filled with posts about the singer, especially reminisces of her heartwarming audition at the AGT.

America’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell paid his tribute and the show also acknowledged the news on their page, “Your voice, your story, and your message touched millions. Nightbirde will always be a member of the AGT family. Rest In Peace, Jane.”

In the post made by her family “Those who knew her, enjoyed her larger-than-life personality and sense of humour. She had a witty joke for every occasion—even if the joke was on her.”

They also mentioned the new Nightbirde Memorial Fund and asked that fans donate “We are raising funds in honour of Jane in order to create a memorial foundation to donate to cancer research & give grants/support to those who may be unable to afford the treatment they need”.

They added a GoFundMe page for this and so far they have raised almost $30,000 of the $500,000 goal.
