Meghan Markle is in the midst of a legal battle with Samantha Markle, her estranged half-sister. Samantha’s latest requests may consume a significant amount of Meghan’s attention.
This all started after her father was invited to her wedding by Prince Harry. Thomas hired paparazzi to photograph him all around the country, and he began leaking Meghan’s letters to the press against her will.
Roslyn Loveless Markle was Thomas Markle’s first wife. Samantha and Thomas Jr. were born to them as a couple. Thomas met Doria Ragland shortly after his divorce from Rosyln in 1975. They married and had a daughter, Meghan. So Meghan and Samantha are step Sisters.
Samantha and Meghan were estranged long before the royal wedding, but that hasn’t prevented her from publicly attacking her half-sister. Following her father’s footsteps to the tee. Meghan is being sued for defamation of character after she blamed Meghan for Thomas’ recent stroke.
Samantha is also suing Meghan over comments made in the famed Oprah Winfrey interview and the book Finding Freedom in a legal case filed earlier this year. Samantha is offended by Meghan’s remark that the two are “virtual sisters,” and she accuses Meghan of fabricating a rags-to-riches story.
Samantha is requesting that a judge order Meghan to appear in court for a deposition that could last up to seven hours. Most civil claims are settled before they reach trial, but Samantha and her attorneys have stated that they want this case to go to a jury. She’s asking for more than $75,000 in damages.
A judge will rule by June 3 whether or not the case can proceed. If it does, one can almost imagine Meghan settling just to get out of a seven-hour deposition.
Meanwhile, Meghan’s team of lawyers, have already filed a bid to dismiss the lawsuit. The team argues “this is a defamation case without any merit.”
