You might not have considered that the world’s tallest woman and shortest woman could share a lot in common.
However, despite a 5-foot height difference, Jyoti Amge and Rumeysa Gelgi have discovered they have more in common than they initially thought.
The tallest and shortest women in the world recently met for afternoon tea to celebrate the 20th annual Guinness World Records Day.
Gelgi, a 27-year-old web developer from Turkey, and Indian actress Amge, 30, shared stories and experiences during their gathering at The Savoy hotel in London.
Gelgi is recognized as the world’s tallest woman at 215.16 cm (7 ft 1 in), while Amge holds the title of the shortest woman at 62.8 cm (2 ft 1 in).
“It was so amazing meeting Jyoti for the first time,” Gelgi said. “It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was great.”
Gelgi has a rare condition known as Weaver syndrome, which leads to accelerated growth and skeletal deformities; she is only the 27th case diagnosed and the first in Turkey.
Although she uses a wheelchair and can only stand with a walker for brief periods, she remains determined not to let her physical challenges limit her.
Amge, known for her role as Ma Petite in the US TV series American Horror Story, has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia.
Both women have been recognized as Guinness World Record icons in the 70th anniversary edition of the book.
They are featured alongside other GWR icons, including Diana Armstrong, who holds the record for the longest fingernails, Sultan Kosen, the tallest man in the world, and disabled strongman Dave Walsh in Guinness World Records 2025.
