Squid Game Is Getting a 2nd Season

Netflix has announced that one of its biggest series, the Squid game will be renewed for another season. The blockbuster Korean series made a groundbreaking debut in the later part of 2021and has since broken a lot of streaming records of the company. The first season of the series follows the character Gi Hun, and 455 other players in a real-life simulation, where players have to go through rounds of childhood Korean games, and the unsuccessful players are eliminated, by death.

The announcement was made sometime last week by the co-founder of Netflix, Ted Sarandos at an event. In his very own words, he said “The Squid Game universe has just begun,” perhaps there’ll be many more seasons after this one, who knows?

If you are familiar with the first season of the series, you’d know that all the players from the game were somehow eliminated from the game, except Gi Hun who emerged as the winner. Hence, one question that lingers in the heart of viewers is, “What will happen in season 2?”

Well, according to Lee Jung-Jae, the show’s star, the character Gi Hun will be showing us a different side. In his recent interview, he says “Because Gi-hun became more serious because he has to rescue these people, I’m thinking that he would become a more determined character,” said Lee. “But if he’s just too determined, that could be a little bit boring. So I’m guessing the fun parts of Gi-hun will also come out in the next season.”

The creator of the show, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that there was a lot of pressure to produce a second season, even though it wasn’t in the original plan. During his interview, he says “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season, so I almost feel like you leave us no choice… It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”

Although the details of the plot have not been released, and the execution of the new season seems quite vague right now, there’s no doubt that the production team will deliver a sterling body of work, yet again.
