Panama’s Italy Mora has officially withdrawn from this year’s Miss Universe competition.
The organization announced this on Friday, stating that the decision was made following a thorough review by its disciplinary commission.
“The disciplinary committee, charged with maintaining the integrity and values of the pageant, conducted a full audit of the matter and, based on the information gathered and reviewed, has concluded that withdrawal is the most appropriate course of action under the current circumstances,” the statement read.
They emphasized the importance of maintaining confidentiality and respect throughout the process, urging everyone to honor Miss Panama’s privacy to prevent unnecessary speculation that could adversely impact all parties involved.
“Confidentiality is a fundamental pillar of any disciplinary process. By protecting sensitive and personal information, we not only ensure fairness and equity in our decisions, but also the dignity of all involved,” they said.
Reacting to this development, Mora in a statement via her Instagram took responsibility of her actions, confirming she failed to comply with the rules.
She also revealed that she stepped down from the pageantry, attributing the expulsion to an unpermitted exit from her room to put on makeup and look for personal belongings.
“Unfortunately, I trusted and followed directions without considering the consequences”, Mora said.
The current Miss Universe competition is taking place in Mexico, with the coronation night scheduled for November 16.
The reigning Miss Universe is Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaragua.
