Sophie Turner has openly discussed the challenges of “being a single mother” following her split from Joe Jonas.
While promoting her upcoming series “Joan,” which tells the story of a single mother and jewel thief in the 1980s, Turner shared her experiences raising their two daughters, Willa (4) and Delphine (2).
She revealed that motherhood significantly influenced her performance, admitting that she might not have brought the same energy to the role without her experience as a mother.
Turner candidly described the struggles of single motherhood, highlighting the importance of parents’ hard work for the sake of their children. She began filming “Joan” before Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023, and portraying the lead character during that time helped her find strength amidst personal challenges. She also humorously noted that her character taught her some unconventional skills.
Reflecting on societal expectations, Turner expressed her belief that there is “a lot of shame associated with motherhood” and criticised the pressure placed on mothers.
Turner and Jonas, who married in 2019 in Las Vegas, ended their marriage after four years. Following their separation, Turner addressed negative reports, calling it the “worst few days of [her] life,” and refuted claims of being a partier. The couple became embroiled in a custody dispute, with Turner suing Jonas for the return of their daughters to the UK. Jonas’s representative denied the allegations, and the two eventually resolved the custody details through mediation. Sources have since confirmed that they are now “friendly and great co-parents.”
Turner has moved on from her marriage with British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, while Jonas has been romantically linked to model Stormi Bree and actress Laila Abdallah.
