Serena Williams shared why she chose not to approach her friend Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl in February.
Serena, who made a brief appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show, had originally planned to bring her daughter Olympia to meet Swift and maybe get an autograph.
But the 43-year-old tennis star told Time magazine she changed her mind.
Since Taylor had been getting booed by Eagles fans during the game — where her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s team, the Chiefs, lost — Serena decided it was best to give her some space.
“I’m such a mom,” she said. “I was ready to go in there myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come meet this little girl.’”
Instead, she decided to wait for another chance for her daughter to meet Swift in a calmer setting.
Even though they didn’t catch up at the game, Serena still stood by her friend and defended her from the negative crowd reaction.
