Saoirse-Monica Jackson: From Derry Girls Fame to New Roles and a Life in Liverpool

Actress Saoirse-Monica Jackson is best known for her role as Erin Quinn on the Channel 4 series Derry Girls, which aired from 2018 to 2022 and won several awards, including a BAFTA. She also appeared in the Netflix comedy series The Decameron and has performed on the West End. In addition, she has been featured on celebrity spin-offs of The Great British Bake Off and Gogglebox.

Jackson’s rise to fame began with Derry Girls, though she first appeared in Harlan Coben’s mini-series The Five in 2016. Currently, she plays Misia in Netflix’s The Decameron and has also starred in The Ferryman on London’s West End.

Born on 24 November 1993 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Jackson spent part of her childhood in Greencastle, Donegal, where her parents ran a pub. Although she played a schoolgirl in Derry Girls, she is now 30 years old.

In addition to Derry Girls, Jackson appeared in the 2023 superhero movie The Flash, Amazon Prime’s Upgraded in 2024, and various other TV shows such as Broken, World’s Most Dangerous Roads, and Skint, created by Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee.

In 2021, she joined co-star Jamie-Lee O’Donnell on Celebrity Gogglebox. In a 2019 festive special of The Great British Bake Off, the cast of Derry Girls brought laughter to the tent. She also starred in a Guinness St. Patrick’s Day advert in 2024, celebrating her Irish heritage.

Jackson is currently engaged to Scottish DJ Denis Sulta (Hector Barbour), and they live together in Liverpool. She has developed close friendships with her Derry Girls castmates, often sharing their bond on social media. She has also enjoyed vacations with Jamie-Lee, including trips to New York in 2022 and Romania for World’s Most Dangerous Roads.
