British boxer Georgia O’Connor has tragically passed away at the age of 25 from a rare and aggressive form of cancer, just weeks after marrying her partner, Adriano Cardinali.
England Boxing confirmed her passing on X, stating, “We’re deeply saddened by the passing of Georgia O’Connor.
A gifted boxer and beloved member of the amateur boxing community, she won medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Youth Worlds & European Championships. Our thoughts are with her loved ones.”
In January, O’Connor publicly disclosed her cancer diagnosis. She had previously battled ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, conditions she noted “dramatically increase the chances” of developing cancer.
In a heartfelt Instagram post on February 3, O’Connor lauded her partner Adriano, who she said quit his job to fight the battle alongside her.
“From the moment I was diagnosed with cancer, Adriano didn’t hesitate,” she wrote. “He quit his job without a second thought and made it his mission to fight this battle alongside me. Not just by my side, but leading the charge, doing everything in his power to save me.”
She continued, “Adriano, you are my superhero. My warrior, my protector, my soulmate. I have no words strong enough to explain what you mean to me; how much I love you, how much I thank you, how much I need you. You are my safe place.”
O’Connor’s mother also described her daughter’s cancer as “incurable” on a fundraising page. Reports indicate that O’Connor had also suffered a miscarriage before her cancer diagnosis.
She married Adriano Cardinali on May 9, just two weeks before her passing on May 22.
