Today Show’s Sheinelle Jones Mourns Husband Uche Ojeh After Battle with Brain Cancer

Sheinelle Jones, co-host of the Today show, is publicly grieving the loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh, who died after a long illness with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The news was announced by her Today co-hosts during the May 23rd broadcast.

Following the announcement, Jones shared a heartfelt message on social media, simply captioning a video of the Today segment with, “Thank you, for all of your love and support. ❤️”

The news comes after the 47-year-old journalist took an extended break from the morning show starting January 15th to deal with a serious family health matter. At the time, she didn’t reveal the nature of the issue, but sources indicated it was “serious.”

During the live announcement on May 23rd, Today co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, and Jenna Bush Hager expressed their deep sadness.

“There are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,” said Guthrie. Melvin, a close friend of Ojeh, added, “He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline of every soccer game. He was at all of the concerts and the recitals. He was that guy.”

Jones and Ojeh met at Northwestern University when she was a freshman and he was a high school senior visiting the campus.

She jokingly recalled acting as a “fake tour guide” to help him, thinking he was “cute.” After eight years of dating, Ojeh proposed on their alma mater’s campus, and they married in 2007.

They share three children: 15-year-old Kayin and 12-year-old twins, Clara and Uche
