Kristin Cavallari, the founder of Uncommon James and reality TV star, has revealed she has no regrets about ending her relationship with her father, Dennis Cavallari. She stated that he “crossed the boundary” with her three children.
“I mean, honestly, and this might sound messed up to some people, but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made, cutting my dad out of my life,” Cavallari, 38, told People in an interview published Monday.
“Such a weight has been lifted from me,” she continued. “There’s not one day where I miss him. I don’t know if it was two or three years ago, but I mean, I was an adult, let’s say I was 35. It was 35 years of buildup to that point.”
Cavallari shares her daughter Saylor, 9, and sons Camden, 12, and Jaxon, 11, with her ex-husband Jay Cutler. They married in 2013 and divorced in 2020.
While the “Laguna Beach” alum did not give details about what exactly happened between her father and her children, she emphasized her happiness with the decision, calling it “something that I had been wanting to do for a long time.”
“He crossed the boundary with my kids,” she told the outlet, adding that he “couldn’t even apologize” after the incident.“Like, you’re just gaslighting me,” she said. “I don’t have time for that anymore. If someone’s not bringing you joy, if people are only bringing you hurt and sadness and anger, what is the point? Even if it’s a parent, life’s too short.”
This isn’t the first time Cavallari has spoken about her strained relationship with her father. In a December 2023 episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast, she described him as a “narcissist.”
“I cut my dad out of my life about two years ago, which has honestly been the best thing I’ve ever done, really and truly,” she told psychologist Dr. Sherrie Campbell at the time. “I actually didn’t even realize that my dad was a narcissist until I was an adult.”
She added that while she had long-standing issues with him, the incident involving her children was the final straw.
“I was always like, I can take it. You know,” she said on the podcast. “I can take the abuse. I have my whole life. But it’s like, when you start now messing with my kids — I’m not doing it.”
