The rumours of a feud between the two actresses surfaced in connection with the release of the sequel to their movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” In an interview with Vulture, Hewitt expressed confusion over how the rumours started and stated that she and Gellar have not been in contact since they were 18 years old.
Hewitt went on to explain that despite not being in touch with Gellar, there is no animosity between them. Gellar also addressed the situation in an Instagram post, emphasising that she thinks highly of her former co-stars from the film. This isn’t the first time the reported feud has been brought up, as it resurfaced in 2024 after an interview with Gellar was interpreted as a slight towards Hewitt.
While Gellar did not return for the sequel due to her character’s fate in the first movie, Hewitt and Gellar have moved on with their respective careers. Gellar is currently working on a reboot of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” for Hulu. Despite not being close friends, Hewitt and Gellar are debunking the celebrity feud narrative and showing that there is no bad blood between them.
