Jatavia Johnson and Caresha Brownlee, JT and Yung Miami, also known as City Girls, have been influential in reshaping female rap for Millennials, Gen Z, and beyond.
Their unique takes on relationships and success have led to numerous achievements, such as chart-topping hits and individual projects like Yung Miami’s talk show.
The duo’s strong bond, originating from high school, has been a key factor in their success.
However, in 2024, they found themselves entangled in a new female rap feud. Want to know how it all began? Here’s the inside scoop!
JT and Yung Miami’s beef started when one accused the other of “sneak dissing” online.
On April 8, 2024, Miami tweeted via Complex, “A b—h has been sneak dissing me for weeks, and I ain’t say sh*t what a b*tch mad at me fa?????!!!!!!”
She followed up with, “I ain’t jealous of a soul; I’m always like, go b*tch go!!! I clap for everybody, and I show love to EVERYBODY !! It ain’t a b—h I haven’t shown love to!!!!!!”
Although Miami didn’t call out the person directly, JT took it personally and responded in a quote tweet.
She cautioned Miami that she was done “playing dumb” and felt Miami enjoyed seeing her face criticism from their haters and wasn’t supportive of her career.
Miami refuted JT’s claims, stating that JT, “LET THE INTERNET PUT IN YOUR HEAD THAT IM JEALOUS OF YOU!”
The Twitter war between the duo went on for hours.
Are the City Girls breaking up?
After their Twitter clash, fans of City Girls were hoping JT and Miami would reunite in the studio soon.
However, the wait continues as the pair decided to focus on their individual projects.
In June 2024, Miami told Complex that they were in “two different spaces,” leading to issues during the making of their potential final joint album, Raw.
Miami explained, “The album rollout was tough because we were just in two different spaces.
“We’re older now, [JT] is on the West Coast, I’m in Miami. When she’s doing her thing and I’m doing mine, it works.
“But as a group, it just wasn’t clicking anymore. So, we both felt it was time to do our own thing.”
Miami expressed her determination to silence the “trolls” who doubted her solo success. She also clarified that despite their public disagreements, she and JT love each other, and their conflicts never escalate beyond words.
Regarding the Twitter spat, Miami mentioned dealing with challenges, including being linked to Diddy’s legal issues.
JT is also exploring solo opportunities, but she remains committed to the group she and Miami built.
