Megan Thee Stallion has opened up about her beef with Nicki Minaj.
Speaking in an interview with Billboard, Megan claimed that she doesn’t know the root cause of their beef.
“I still to this day don’t know what the problem is. I don’t even know what could be reconciled because I, to this day, don’t know what the problem is.”
In January, Megan appeared to take a subtle swipe at Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, a registered sex offender, with her chart-topping single “Hiss”.
The lyrics seem to reference Megan’s Law, a federal law requiring public disclosure of sex offender information.
Minaj swiftly responded with a diss track, “Big Foot,” accusing Megan of lying about her cosmetic surgery and making a personal dig by mentioning Megan’s late mother, Holly Thomas, who passed away from brain cancer in 2019.
The exact origin of the feud between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion is unclear, but fans speculate that it began when Megan collaborated with Cardi B on the 2020 hit single “WAP”, a move that may have been perceived as a betrayal by Minaj, who has a well-documented history of tension with Cardi B.
The rift continued when Minaj released her 2023 track “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”, which contained a lyric that many interpreted as a diss aimed at Megan: “But I don’t f–k with horses since Christopher Reeves.”
The reference to Christopher Reeves, who suffered a spinal cord injury from a horse riding accident in 1995, was seen as a veiled insult, further fueling the feud between the two rappers, who had previously collaborated on the successful 2019 single “Hot Girl Summer”.
On other artists dissing her in their songs, Megan said, “I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing. If people feel like I’m somebody to aim at, then I must be pretty high up if you’re reaching up at me.
“I must be some kind of competition. That makes me feel good. That makes me feel like I could rap because if I wasn’t the s**t, y’all wouldn’t be worried about me.”
