How to Use iPhone Face ID While Wearing a Mask

You must be familiar with the frustration that comes with having to lower down your face mask just to unlock your iPhone.

Apart from the stress that comes with needing to drag your mask down, there is also the risk of either spreading or getting something to and from the people around.

Another method of unlocking your iPhone would be to use the passcode, but that’s boring, annoying and frankly, uninteresting.

You can also imagine another hassle of needing to unlock your phone by typing the passcodes, but then your hands are filled with different items and you just can’t deal!

But alas, all of these hassles come to an end as Apple releases iOS 15.4, the latest iPhone software update that comes with quite a number of amazing features.

These features- like the meaty face emojis that can either express humiliation, shame or embarrassment, the SharePlay feature that allows you to stream shows in real-time with your friends, and most importantly, the ability to unlock your iPhone with your face mask on- are definitely a step in the right direction.

The new iOS 15.4 software update comes with improved facial recognition software that proffers a solution to the problem of using Face ID with your mask on when most of your face is covered up.

This feature will allow iPhone users to keep their masks on in public, thereby helping to retain a safer and healthier environment for people around.

The feature will also render the need for a passcode useless, as it gets to know and study the eyes of the user much better than ever.

Therefore, there will be no more need to drag your mask down in public, or fumble with typing your passcodes when needed.

How to use iPhone with the new Face ID update

The bummer about this new update is that it only works for the most recent iPhone models. So, older iPhone models may not have access to it.

But if your phone is a newer model, this is how to go about setting up your Face ID with a mask.

1. Update your iPhone to the latest iOS 15.4 software. You do this by going to Settings, General and clicking on Software Update.

2. After your phone has been updated, head on to Settings and scroll down to where you have Face ID and Passcode.

3. Tap Turn on Face ID with A Mask; make sure you are using a mask at this point, to confirm that it’s properly set up.

4. Tap Get Started and follow the prompts that ask you to move your head slowly in a circle. This process allows the software to capture the unique details of your eyes so it can recognize you even with your mask on.

5. Once you’re finished, you can tap Done at the bottom of your screen.

After you have completed these steps, you can go on to use Face ID with or without a mask.
