England goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck made an impressive comeback from a stroke she suffered last year, playing her first game for Barcelona on Saturday.
Roebuck disclosed in March that she had experienced a stroke the previous year and had been coping with the effects, having gone months without playing for Manchester City.
The England international, who has earned 11 caps for her country, joined Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer after it was confirmed that she would fully recover.
However, on Saturday, she officially returned to the pitch 19 months after her last appearance at any level, participating in Barca’s victory over Betis.
Unfortunately, she was denied a clean sheet in the final minute as Yasmine Zouhir scored a 90th-minute consolation, leading to a 4-1 win for the Catalan giants.
In a post via Instagram Roebuck appreciated all her supporters and fans.
She wrote, “303 days later. The goal was always to play the game I love again and at times it felt impossible but to do it for @fcbfemeni is a dream. It’s been a journey thank you to everyone who’s supported me along the way nothing will ever beat this feeling.”
