A brave Chinese woman Hu Youping, who tried to stop a knife attack on a Japanese mother and child in the Chinese city of Suzhou has died.
The heroic Hu Youping was reportedly in a school bus when a man attacked the duo which led to several injuries she sustained while preventing the attack.
According to the Suzhou police on Thursday, Hu Youping would be given the title of “righteous and courageous role model”.
The Japanese embassy in China also lowered its flag to half-mast on Friday morning to honour Hu.
In a statement on social media sites X and Weibo, the embassy said it was “saddened” to hear of her death.
“We believe [Ms Hu’s] courage and kindness also represent that of the Chinese people. We pay tribute to her righteous deeds. May she rest in peace,” it said.
The Japanese mother and child were also hurt in Monday’s attack, one of whom remains in hospital.
The attacker who is a 52-year-old unemployed man surnamed Zhou was arrested at the scene.
