Kim Kardashian Advocates For Incarcerated Firefighters to Receive Higher Pay Amid LA Fires

Kim Kardashian has advocated for higher wages for incarcerated firefighters who are bravely battling the Los Angeles wildfires.

In a series of Instagram posts, the reality TV star and entrepreneur expressed her respect for these individuals, who risk their lives for very little pay, and called on California Governor Gavin Newsom to take action.

The ongoing Palisades and Eaton fires have burned a total of 37,000 acres since January 7, involving over 800 incarcerated firefighters alongside professional crews.

Kim shared a video from the nonprofit Anti-Recidivism Coalition, commending these individuals for their bravery and commitment.

Reflecting on the devastating effects of the fires, she spoke about witnessing her city burn and praised the firefighters who work tirelessly to protect their communities.

She specifically noted the contributions of incarcerated firefighters, many of whom work 24-hour shifts for as little as $5.80 to $10.24 per day, plus an extra $1 per hour during emergencies.

Despite their low wages, they continue to put their lives on the line, with some even losing their lives while serving.

Kim emphasized that incarcerated firefighters represent a significant portion of California’s wildfire response team, sometimes making up 30% of the force, and she stressed the need to recognize their heroism and ensure they receive fair compensation.

The SKIMS founder also pointed out the challenges these individuals face after their release. Although legislation has been proposed to assist former incarcerated firefighters in expunging their records and finding jobs in fire departments, the process can be lengthy and complicated.

Still, she commended initiatives like the Ventura Training Center, which provides formerly incarcerated firefighters with the opportunity to continue their service and earn better wages.

Kim called on Governor Newsom to increase the wages of incarcerated firefighters, highlighting the importance of recognizing their contributions.

She concluded by expressing gratitude to all firefighters, including those from the Ventura Training Center, for their dedication to protecting her community.

This isn’t the first time she has addressed social justice issues; she is actively pursuing a law degree and has been advocating for sentencing reforms and the rights of incarcerated individuals.
