Fashion and lifestyle influencer, Bridget Bahl, shared the heartbreaking news of her breast cancer diagnosis in a touching Instagram video on September 22.
The 41-year-old influencer emotionally revealed her recent diagnosis while undergoing her sixth IVF retrieval in hopes of starting a family with her husband, plastic surgeon Michael Chiodo.
“We just really want to have a baby,” expressed the content creator during her candid revelation.
“I was maybe two or three days into the shots, and I had the routine bloodwork, sonogram with my doctor, and I told him I had felt something in my breast,” Bahl explained in her video.
“Her doctor immediately advised her to go in for imaging.
She continued, “He got me in in like a day or two, and I was completely convinced that it was fine, it was just a cyst and it was from the hormones.”
Bahl mentioned that when she went in for scans, she surprisingly didn’t feel anxious about the abnormality. “I felt great,” she emphasized. “I feel great.”
During the mammogram and sonogram, Bahl recounted meeting a compassionate doctor who, upon showing her the mass, expressed concern saying, “Bridget, I have been doing this for a long time, and I do not like what I see.”
At the doctor’s instruction, Bahl underwent a biopsy on the same day. The following day, the doctor called with the distressing update: “Unfortunately, [she] confirmed that I do have breast cancer and that it has spread to a lymph node,” shared Bahl.
Bahl revealed that the past few weeks have been incredibly challenging, describing them as “nothing short of a nightmare” with a flurry of appointments and the need to process and plan.
She revealed the upcoming treatments she faces, including chemotherapy, surgery, and potentially radiation therapy.
Despite the tough journey ahead, Bahl shared a glimmer of hope with her followers, stating, “The good news is that the type I have, it is very responsive to a targeted treatment, which gives us so much hope.”
She bravely acknowledged the road ahead, saying, “I know that I’m going to be okay, and I just also know there’s a really scary road ahead.”
Bahl expressed her faith in overcoming the challenges ahead, saying, “I don’t want to do it, but I believe through the grace of God I can do it.”
Bahl shared that she and her husband are currently in the midst of their final IVF retrieval process.
Expressing the urgency of their situation, she mentioned, “We didn’t start at the most ideal time. There’s not enough time to wait to do another round, so I’m just asking for prayers. I would just love to get another embryo.”
She humbly requested her followers to pray for this outcome, emphasizing the significance it holds for her.
The influencer ended her message by stressing the importance of self-care to her predominantly female audience.
Encouraging regular breast self-examinations, she stressed, “You have to do your self-exams, and if you feel something, you have to say something, and you have to get it checked out. Do not wait.”
