Why Selena Gomez Doesn’t Sleep in Her Own Bedroom Anymore

Selena Gomez has opened up about why she no longer sleeps in her own bedroom, revealing it stems from a difficult period in her life.

The Only Murders in the Building star, 32, spoke candidly during Wondermind’s Mental Fitness Summit on Oct. 10, an event she co-hosted with her mother, Mandy Teefey. Gomez explained that her bedroom had become associated with “a really dark time” for her, leading her to avoid sleeping there.

She shared, “I’m a little bit different from my mom because I spent too much time in my bedroom. I actually don’t even sleep in my bedroom anymore.”

Gomez recalled the anxiety that left her bedridden for years, adding, “Being anxious is so debilitating sometimes. I didn’t want to leave my bed for years.”

Though she now sleeps elsewhere, Gomez continues to struggle with insomnia, admitting that the night before the event, she was unable to sleep until 4 a.m. “My mind was simply racing… I just kept saying, ‘This will pass.’” Despite these challenges, Gomez highlighted the importance of doing the work on oneself, noting, “You have to believe in yourself and do the work that will truly enlighten you, even if that is watching a show for 30 minutes.”

Gomez has long been an advocate for mental health awareness. In 2022, she released her documentary My Mind & Me, where she detailed her 2019 bipolar disorder diagnosis and shared the struggles that led to her being hospitalized in 2018.
