Anna Kendrick is opening up about her views on motherhood, and it’s evident she’s given it considerable thought.
Known for roles in Pitch Perfect and A Simple Favour, Kendrick has long been open about not seeing herself as a mother, which she initially shared in her 2016 memoir, Scrappy Little Nobody.
In a recent conversation with Flow Space, Kendrick touched on how men often talk about their wish to have children someday, using phrases like, “Maybe one day—a couple of kids running around.”
She noted she rarely hears women say this in the same way, and feels it presents an unrealistic version of family life—the type where a woman manages all child-rearing while the man enjoys a stress-free return home from work.
Kendrick’s issue with this sentiment is its implied lack of male responsibility. As she stated, “Um, where are you in that, sir?” Kendrick also voiced frustration with husbands who say they want to “help out” with parenting, as if it’s not a shared duty.
Kendrick has previously addressed her decision not to have children. After JD Vance’s comments earlier this year about “childless cat ladies,” Kendrick responded in The Guardian, expressing that the idea of children rarely crosses her mind. Now a cat owner, she humorously added, “Why would anyone trust me with a kid?” Kendrick’s comments reflect her comfort with her choice and her readiness to speak honestly about it.
