Liam Payne’s ex-fiancée Maya Henry is reportedly in “shock” following his tragic death, which occurred on Wednesday, October 16, when the former One Direction member fell from a hotel room balcony in Argentina.
Just days earlier, Maya had publicly discussed her past relationship with Liam, alleging that he had used “death as a manipulation tactic” during their time together.
Speaking on The Internet is Dead podcast, Maya opened up about what she described as Liam’s struggles with mental health, alleging that he had been abusive and would often reach out post-breakup with distressing messages, saying, “Oh, I’m not well… Well, I’m going to die. I’m not doing well.” Maya characterised these messages as a way to manipulate her emotions, even after their relationship had ended.
According to the Daily Mail, Maya learned of Liam’s death from a member of her team and expressed that she was “obviously in shock.” Maya also shared that Liam once called her mother, pleading for Maya to contact him, reportedly saying, “I’m not going to be around much longer.” Maya said that despite the challenges, her family tried to support him, feeling their kindness may have been taken advantage of.
Additionally, Maya disclosed that one of Liam’s friends had urged her to delay releasing her upcoming novel, Looking Forward, citing concerns about the impact on Liam’s mental health.
