She was born on February 19, 1998, in Midwestern US state Missouri. Roan attended Willard High School. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 20.

She has characterized her music as ‘slumber party pop,’ blending indie and synth pop with 80s influences. 

Her biggest hit to date is ‘Good Luck, Babe,’ which reached Number 2 on the UK chart.

Where did Chappell Roan get her stage name?

The singer chose her stage name in memory of her late grandfather, Dennis Chappell, whose favorite song was ‘The Strawberry Roan.’ 

In an Instagram post on what would have been her grandfather’s birthday, which also marked the release of her debut album, Chappell Roan shared: ‘Dear Papa, I wish you could see what we have created. I named this project after you to honor your name and your never-ending love. “Chappell” is your last name, a name that brings me so many lovely memories. “Roan” references your favorite old western song, “The Strawberry Roan.”‘

How did Chappell Roan rise to fame?

Despite releasing hit after hit for several years, Chappell Roan only truly gained public attention in the last year after supporting her friend and pop star Olivia Rodrigo on tour and releasing the successful record ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ 

Interest in the singer has surged over the past year, with performances at Coachella in April and Lollapalooza in Chicago in August.
