What Does “Crop” Mean on TikTok?

If you’re among the daring millennials or Generation Z youth who’ve downloaded TikTok, you’ve undoubtedly had instances when you wished you’d installed a language-learning program alongside TikTok. Everything has a different meaning and just when you think you’ve mastered the lingo, a tsunami of trolling TikTokers inundates your stream with a new word: “Crop?”

Meaning of Crop on TikTok

The term “crop” is one that is being used for something entirely different on TikTok. Originally, the term is used to describe when someone would take a screenshot of a video or image and crop out the part of the picture they didn’t want others to see. This could be anything from someone’s face to a private area.

However, now the term has evolved and is now used to ask TikTokers to repost a cropped version of their video. Users may freely screen record the cropped version of the video or screenshot a still photograph from the video to use as a phone background without any watermarks on their screens by doing so.

Before now, Tiktokers would save a TikTok to their phone or do a screen recording, but could not repost because the video had been tainted by TikTok’s watermarks.

The creativity and lingo of the TikTok users never cease to amaze everyone. With a simple term like “crop,” they have found a way to get around TikTok’s watermarks and continue to share their videos and images with others. I can’t wait to see what else they come up with!
