Shirley Ballas, best known as a judge on “Strictly Come Dancing” and mother of “Dancing With the Stars” pro Mark Ballas, recently shared an update on her health after a concerning fall. In a post on her Instagram stories, reported by Express, the 65-year-old dancer revealed the details of her accident, which led to a hospital visit and subsequent discharge.
“The spine, the back, the lower back, the knee, the ankle, everything hurts,” Ballas shared. “So I’m going to go, and [the doctor] is gonna check all my spine and make sure it’s good, and then I’ll go home and have another day of rest. Can you believe it?”
Despite her injuries, Ballas expressed gratitude for the nurses, doctors, and friends who helped her during this time. She emphasized the importance of taking time to rest and be cautious, especially after experiencing such a frightening incident.
During her professional ballroom career, Shirley Ballas achieved great success, including being a three-time British Open to the World Latin American Champion and a 10-time US Latin American Champion. She was also a multiple-time British National Champion.
Not only did Shirley excel in her dancing career, but she also had a successful partnership with her ex-husband Corky Ballas. Together, they won numerous titles and championships before retiring in 1996. In a nostalgic Instagram video shared by Ballas, the couple’s passion and talent for dance were on full display in an entertaining jive routine.
Shirley and Corky Ballas also played a significant role in mentoring other dancers, such as Derek Hough and Julianne Hough, in the art of ballroom dance. Their influence extended beyond the dance floor, as they invited the Hough siblings to live with them in London and train at the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
Despite her recent health scare, Shirley Ballas remains committed to her role as a judge on “Strictly Come Dancing.” She is set to appear on the show’s live tour alongside fellow judges Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood. Since joining the series in 2017 as head judge, Ballas has brought her expertise and passion for dance to audiences around the world.
In the world of ballroom dance, Shirley Ballas has left an indelible mark, both as a performer and a mentor. Her resilience and dedication to her craft serve as an inspiration to dancers and fans alike.
