Selena Gomez Reveals That She Can’t Carry Her Own Children

The actress, who has been living with lupus—a condition where the immune system attacks the body’s tissues and organs since 2013, recently opened up about her health struggles in an interview with Vanity Fair.

In her conversation with the platform, she revealed, “I’ve never shared this before, but sadly, I can’t carry my own children. I have numerous medical complications that would endanger both my life and the baby’s. It was something I had to mourn for quite some time.”

Gomez spoke about how her health challenges reshaped her expectations of starting a family, diverging from what she had initially envisioned. She also mentioned that she has now made peace with her new reality.

“It’s not exactly the way I pictured it. I assumed it would happen like it does for everyone else. But I’m in a much better place with it now. I’m grateful that there are incredible options like surrogacy and adoption, which are both very real possibilities for me,” she said.

Despite the changes to her path to motherhood, Gomez remains hopeful and excited about the future.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what that journey will look like, even though it won’t be how I originally imagined. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. The child will be mine, it’ll be my baby,” she explained.

Reflecting on her personal life, she added, “Before I met my boyfriend, I was single for five years, aside from a few dates here and there. And I thought, ‘If this is the way things are, what’s the most important thing to me? Family.’”
