Sarah Jessica Parker Divulges Most ‘Unpleasant’ Part of Playing Carrie Bradshaw on ‘Sex and the City’

Sarah Jessica Parker, best known for playing Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City, has revealed she’s barely seen the iconic show and isn’t a fan of watching herself on screen.

In a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Parker admitted she never rewatched most of the original series, despite starring in it and producing it.

“I’ve never seen most of it. I’ve never watched the show,” she told host Alex Cooper. She said she watched early rough cuts when the series first started, but eventually asked to stop.

“It was so unpleasant for me to watch myself that I couldn’t see the work,” she explained, adding that it made her feel like a bad producing partner.

By season two, she said, she’d stopped watching entirely though she stayed involved in other ways behind the scenes.

Parker said she only made one exception: watching the series finale live during a special screening. That moment, she said, was the first time she truly realized the cultural impact of Sex and the City. “It was incredible,” she recalled. “That was the only time I understood what the show meant to people.”

Despite not rewatching the series, Parker has returned to the role of Carrie Bradshaw several times in two movies and again in the sequel series And Just Like That.
