CIA Deputy Director David S. Cohen revealed that a foiled terrorist attack targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna aimed to kill tens of thousands of people, including Americans.
Speaking at the annual Intelligence Summit near Washington, D.C., Cohen shared updates on the plot investigation, which led to the cancellation of Swift’s shows in Vienna.
He credited the CIA and intelligence partners for providing crucial information to Austrian authorities, enabling them to make arrests and prevent the attack by an ISIS-connected group.
On August 7, Austrian concert promoter Barracuda Music announced the cancellation of Taylor Swift’s three Eras Tour shows at Ernst Happel Stadium due to a suspected terrorist plot.
Austrian authorities have since arrested three individuals, including one found with bomb-making materials, accused of planning the attack.
Cohen confirmed that the plot aimed to target the concert, killing a large number of attendees.
Swift recently broke her silence on the incident, expressing devastation and gratitude towards the authorities for preventing the attack.
She acknowledged the fans’ unity and love, stating that they were grieving the cancelled concerts, not their lives.
The CIA’s method of uncovering the plot remains undisclosed. The cancelled shows were expected to attract 200,000 people.
