Nicole Shanahan is a California based attorney and the founder and president of Bia-Echo Foundation. She was born in 1985 in Oakland, United States. Shanahan is married to Sergey Brin, the co-Founder of Google.

The couple got married in the year 2018, after dating for 3 years. Together, they have a baby girl, born in 2018. 

Education

Nicole Shanahan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies, Economics and Mandarin Chinese which she completed in 2007.

She also holds several certifications from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, the National University of Singapore / NUS, and the Santa Clara University School of Law.

Career

Nicole Shanahan is the founder and president of the Bia-Echo Foundation. The Bia-Echo Foundation is a private foundation that aims to invest in changemakers at the forefront of innovation who are tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges: reproductive longevity & equality, criminal justice reform and a healthy & livable planet.

She has led the foundation to complete projects which include: the launch of the world’s first Center for Reproductive Longevity and Equality at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging and the Stanford Computational Policy Lab to drive social impact on criminal justice reform via data analysis and technical innovation

Before starting Bia-Echo, Nicole Shanahan founded ClearAccessIP. ClearAccessIP is an integrated patent management company that uses artificial intelligence to help the creators and owners of IP assets effectively develop, manage and transact patent-protected technology. 

She has also launched the Smart Prosecution Project at CodeX, the Stanford Center of Legal Informatics, of which, she is an academic fellow.

Recently, Shanahan has also announced that she is launching a new carbon sequestration initiative, which is the process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide to help counteract the release of greenhouse gas emissions.
