Mother Arrested After Sending Child to School with Firearm in Backpack

In a shocking incident that took place in Florida, a mother named Sierra Bronner allegedly placed a firearm in her child’s backpack and sent him to school. The child, a student at Coppergate Elementary School, discovered the gun at the beginning of the school day. Fortunately, the situation was quickly handled by school authorities and law enforcement, who placed the school on lockdown while the gun was confiscated.

It was later revealed that Bronner intended for her child to return the gun to his father, as the parents did not live together. The father was unaware of the firearm in the backpack, and as a result, it ended up at the child’s school. This reckless action led to Bronner’s arrest on charges of child neglect and giving a firearm to a minor. The Florida Department of Children and Families was also notified to respond to the situation.

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook expressed her concerns over the incident, emphasizing the importance of parents being aware of what their children bring to school. She highlighted the need for open communication between parents and children to prevent such dangerous situations from occurring in the future.

The incident was described as a result of a “poor decision” that had the potential to turn into a tragedy. Sheriff Cook praised the collaboration between law enforcement and the school district in ensuring the safety of students. The swift response from school resource deputies and detectives played a crucial role in handling the situation effectively.
