Miley Cyrus Sued For Allegedly Copying Bruno Mars on Hit Song ‘Flowers’

Miley Cyrus has faced a lawsuit for copyright infringement due to similarities between her song “Flowers” and Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man.”

According to TMZ, Tempo Music Investments alleges that Cyrus’ hit shares many musical elements with Mars’ ballad, claiming intentional similarities in the chorus, harmony, melody, chord progressions, and lyrics.

Mars isn’t listed as a plaintiff in the case.

Earlier this year, the “Malibu” singer won her first Grammys with “Flowers” taking record of the year and best pop solo performance over Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.

Cyrus expressed, “This award is amazing, but I really hope that it doesn’t change anything, because my life was beautiful yesterday. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular, so please don’t think that this is important.”

Rumors suggest that the two-time Grammy winner penned the song about her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, whom she was married to from 2018 to 2020.

Cyrus, with a long history in the music industry, expressed her surprise at the delayed recognition from the Recording Academy.

In an interview with W Magazine in June, she questioned, “No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys?

“I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the f–k was I? And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the f–k was I?”

“This isn’t about being arrogant. I am proud of myself,” the pop star emphasized.

Cyrus joined the industry at 12 years old, featuring in Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” from 2006 to 2011.

She later rose to the top of the charts with tracks like “Party in the U.S.A.” and “Wrecking Ball.”
