Miley Cyrus has finally cleared the air about the gold dress she wore in her 2023 “Flowers” music video, squashing fan theories that it was a subtle jab at Jennifer Lawrence.
Fans had speculated that Cyrus’s dress looked similar to a gown Jennifer Lawrence wore at the 2012 “Hunger Games” premiere, suggesting it was a reference to long-standing cheating rumors involving Lawrence and Cyrus’s ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.
However, while signing autographs last week before her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Cyrus directly addressed a fan’s question about the dress. “No but I love that dress of hers,” the musician replied in a clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), putting the rumors to rest.
While both dresses were shimmery and featured midriff cutouts, they had distinct differences. Cyrus’s was a vintage Yves Saint Laurent design from 1991, featuring a slouchy hood and a revealing silhouette.
Lawrence’s Prabal Gurung gown, on the other hand, was floor-length with two large cutouts in the back.
Jennifer Lawrence herself had previously dismissed these rumors. In a 2023 episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” she stated, “I just assume that was, like, a coincidence.”
During the same appearance, Lawrence also denied any romantic involvement with Liam Hemsworth while he was with Miley Cyrus, calling the accusation “Not true.Total rumor.”
Many believe Miley Cyrus’s hit song “Flowers” is about her on-again, off-again relationship with Liam Hemsworth, which spanned over a decade, starting in 2009 and ending with their divorce in 2020 after two years of marriage.
