Police has arrested a 62-year old male suspect for allegedly setting three lesbian women on fire in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
According to reports, the suspect reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail into the victims boarding house room on May 6 which blew up the room.
One of the women identified as Pamela Fabiana Cobas, was severely burned and died almost immediately.
Her partner, Mercedes Roxana Figueroa, died of organ failure two days later, with burns covering 90 percent of her body while Andrea Amarante died in the hospital on May 12.
However, one of the women present at the time of the incident was said to have survived.
Local human rights defenders have attributed the attack on the women to inciting comments about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, LGBTQ, people and their rights made by prominent politicians.
They further urged authorities in Argentina to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the killings and ensure proper medical care and housing for the surviving woman.
According to the group, government officials should cease and condemn rhetoric that stigmatizes queer women and may contribute to a climate in which they are seen as deserving of violence.
