Living Colour’s Anticipated Comeback: A New Chapter of Boundaries and Expectations

Living Colour isn’t resting on their laurels — the iconic rock band is hard at work on their first album in nearly a decade. Drummer Will Calhoun recently revealed in an interview that the group’s upcoming project is expected to drop in the spring of 2026.

Discussing the creative process behind the highly anticipated album, Calhoun shared that Living Colour is exploring a sound that harkens back to their 1993 album ‘Stain,’ while also pushing boundaries and embracing a fresh perspective. This new release will be a significant milestone for the band, marking their return to the spotlight after 2017’s ‘Shade.’

Calhoun also reflected on the evolution of Living Colour’s songwriting process over the years, noting that advancements in technology have provided the band with new tools and inspiration. Despite the ease of modern methods like A.I. and digital recording software, Calhoun emphasized the importance of the band coming together in person to create music, a process that has always yielded their best results.

Guitarist Vernon Reid echoed Calhoun’s sentiments, sharing insights into the band’s current recording sessions. Reid teased a cover of a “kind of obscure Dr. John thing” and hinted at a collaboration with Anthrax bassist Frankie Bello, showcasing Living Colour’s commitment to experimentation and staying true to their eclectic musical roots.

With a career spanning over three decades, Living Colour has carved out a unique place in the music industry by blending heavy metal, funk, jazz, hip-hop, punk, and alternative rock. Led by vocalist Corey Glover, the band rose to fame with their Grammy-winning hit “Cult of Personality” in 1990, solidifying their status as genre-defying trailblazers who continue to captivate audiences worldwide.

After disbanding in 1995 and reuniting in 2000, Living Colour has maintained a steadfast presence in the music scene, with their music streaming over 200 million times on Spotify. Their iconic track “Cult of Personality” even serves as the entrance theme for WWE star CM Punk, further solidifying Living Colour’s legacy as a cultural force to be reckoned with.

As Living Colour gears up for their highly anticipated comeback, fans can expect a bold new chapter in the band’s storied career, one that promises to push boundaries and defy expectations in true Living Colour fashion.
