Kristi Noem, the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, had her handbag stolen while she was eating at a restaurant in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night.
The bag had important items inside, including her passport, government security badge, $3,000 in cash, her driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, and blank checks, according to officials.
The next day, Noem confirmed the theft while attending the White House Easter Egg Roll event.
Her department explained that she had taken out the cash to treat her kids and grandkids, who were visiting for Easter, to dinner and gifts.
The police in Washington, D.C. passed the case to the Secret Service, which then directed all questions to the Department of Homeland Security.
Noem is known for her bold social media posts and previously served as the governor of South Dakota.
She became Homeland Security Secretary in 2025 and now oversees important areas like border control, immigration, and national security.
Agencies under her watch include FEMA, the Coast Guard, and the Secret Service.
