After a leaked voice note surfaced, Justin Baldoni issued an apology to Blake Lively regarding his reaction to her edits in their film, It Ends with Us.
The two had previously discussed the changes she made to a scene, but the situation escalated when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment during the filming of their 2024 box-office hit, which he directed.
Baldoni’s apology came after he filed a $400 million defamation countersuit against her.
In reviewing their text communications, both parties revealed that Lively had initiated the conversation about her alterations to the rooftop scene.
In her messages, she expressed her disappointment with Baldoni’s initial reaction to her edits, mentioning that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and close friend, identified as Taylor Swift, had praised the changes she made.
Further insights emerged from an audio recording dated January 27.
In the nearly seven-minute voice note, Baldoni started with an apology, saying, “I’m really sorry. I for sure fell short, and you worked really hard on that,” according to Daily Mail.
He added, “And the way you framed it and how that made you feel, I just want to say thank you for sharing that with me.”
Baldoni expressed gratitude for Lively’s trust and vulnerability, stating, “I feel really grateful that you feel safe enough to tell me that’s how you feel and share that with me. I’m really sorry, I f***ed up.”
He acknowledged his flaws, saying, “I’m a very flawed man as my wife will attest,” and promised to “do better.”
He praised Lively and her friends, saying, “Damn right you’ve got great friends if that’s how you felt and they knew that. The three of you guys together is unbelievable. Talk about energy; just a force, all three of you.”
He concluded with excitement about working together, saying, “I’m just excited to spend time with you.”
Meanwhile, Baldoni’s legal team plans to launch a website with correspondence and videos they believe will counter Lively’s allegations.
His attorney stated, “If they want to unethically gag the truth by threatening to wield their power in Hollywood, we will fight it every step of the way. Defending ourselves is not retaliation, it is a human right,” as reported by People Magazine.
