Jennifer Love Hewitt Recalls ‘Grown Men’ Making Jokes About Her Boobs At 16

Jennifer Love Hewitt reflects on her past with a clear perspective.

The “Ghost Whisperer” actress discussed the experience of being sexualized as a teenager during her appearance on Tuesday’s episode of “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown” podcast.

“At just 16, I was subjected to grown men making jokes about my breasts on a talk show, and people found it funny. It was a culture that accepted such behavior, but looking back now, it’s truly astonishing,” Hewitt, now 45, shared.

“In hindsight, it was bizarre to be labeled a sex symbol before I even understood what that meant. I had no grasp of what being sexy was about.”

Hewitt also recounted encounters with men who made sexually charged comments about her 1999 Maxim cover when she was just 17.

“People would casually approach me and say, ‘I took your magazine with me on a trip last week.’ I would just laugh it off, not really understanding the implications. It feels kind of gross now.”

As the conversation continued, she recalled how jokes about her breasts became a norm after her role in “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

“When the movie released, everyone joked, ‘Oh, I know what your breasts did last summer,’ and it became a running joke. I laughed along, not realizing I was being talked to about my body by grown men on national television.”

The “Party of Five” star mentioned that she often tried to downplay the focus on her breasts, feeling embarrassed about her figure at the time.
