Jenna Ortega Reveals How She Received “Disgusting” Texts As A Child Actor

Jenna Ortega has shared why she stopped using X/Twitter and the disturbing DMs she received as a child.

While Jenna is now recognized for her roles in Wednesday and the Scream movies, she began her acting journey at just 10 years old, appearing in Iron Man 3 in 2013.

Her breakthrough came with the lead role of Harley Diaz in Stuck in the Middle on the Disney Channel.

Jenna also showcased her talent in Jane the Virgin and You.

As a young actress, Jenna faced challenges with social media.

She revealed to The New York Times her distressing experience of encountering sexually explicit deep fakes of herself as a child on X/Twitter.

Jenna expressed her discomfort, stating, “Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No. It’s terrifying. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong.”

Jenna recalled her first opened DM being “an unsolicited photo of a man’s genitals” when she was just 12, prompted by managers’ advice to build her image.

Overwhelmed by the negative content post-Wednesday, Jenna decided to delete her account two to three years ago due to the distressing images and her emotional state at the time.

Discussing her decision further, Jenna added: “It was disgusting, and it made me feel bad. It made me feel uncomfortable.

Anyway, that’s why I deleted it: I couldn’t say anything without seeing something like that. One day, I just woke up, and I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t need this anymore.’ So I dropped it.
