Is Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus Distant Cousin?

Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton share a special bond that goes beyond just the godmother-goddaughter relationship; they are actually blood relatives.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, the country singer discovered through an Ancestry report that she and Cyrus are “seventh cousins.

Their family connection traces back to a common ancestor, John Brickey, who was born in 1740 in Virginia.

Reacting to the report Parton said she wasn’t surprised by the report, adding that Cyrus feels like family.

“We’re so close, Miley and I. I would’ve thought we’d have been at least third cousins, 10 times removed… It doesn’t surprise me because she does feel like family,” she said.

“I’m sure [Miley] will get a kick out of that!”

Dolly Parton once revealed in a 2009 ABC News interview that she had known Miley Cyrus since she was a baby.

Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley’s father, asked Parton to be his daughter’s godmother, a request she gladly accepted.

Miley has also frequently praised the renowned country singer.

During a conversation with David Letterman on his Netflix show in June, she credited Parton as the inspiration behind her memorable Flowers performance at the 2024 Grammys.
