Is Beyoncé Joining Kamala Harris on Her Campaign Trail?

Beyoncé is reportedly joining Vice President Kamala Harris on the campaign trail as the 2024 presidential race heats up, according to The Washington Post. The 43-year-old music icon is expected to appear in her hometown of Houston on Friday, October 25, alongside Harris, who is 60, after months of speculation over whether she would publicly endorse the Democratic nominee.

The report suggests that Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, and country music legend Willie Nelson will also make appearances at the rally. It remains unclear whether they will perform, as earlier in the week, Eminem introduced former President Barack Obama at a Democratic rally in Detroit without rapping.

Beyoncé has previously shown her support for Harris, gifting her and second gentleman Doug Emhoff tickets to the Renaissance World Tour in 2023 and permitting her music to be used in Harris’ presidential campaign. Harris featured Beyoncé’s song Freedom in her first campaign video back in July. In the video, Harris contrasts her vision for the future with that of former President Donald Trump, advocating for a country of “freedom,” including economic opportunity, protection from gun violence, and reproductive rights.

Beyoncé granted Harris special permission to use Freedom for campaign purposes, while reportedly shutting down an attempted usage of the song by Donald Trump’s campaign. When a spokesperson for Trump shared a video using the track on social media in August, Beyoncé threatened legal action and the campaign received a cease-and-desist warning.

Beyoncé’s political involvement is not new, as she previously performed the national anthem at President Obama’s 2013 inauguration and publicly endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 election, encouraging voters to support the Democratic candidate on social media.
