Indian Airline Gives Female Travellers Option to Choose Seats Next to Other Women

IndiGo, one of the biggest airlines in India, has rolled out a new option allowing female passengers to select their seats based on where other women are seated, aiming to enhance the comfort and safety of women travelers.

This initiative was prompted by a series of harassment incidents that gained widespread attention in recent months.

Attacks on women and children during flights are unfortunately common globally.

NDTV reported an ugly incident that occurred on the Air India flight. A Mumbai businessman, Shankar Mishra, allegedly urinated on a female senior citizen onboard on the flight.

However, it is shocking to note that Air India only filed a police complaint against him in January 2023, despite the incident occurring in November 2022.

These unpleasant incidents prompted the introduction of new feature that allows female travellers checking in online for their flights to choose the female-friendly option on a pilot basis from the low-cost carrier.

IndiGo said in a statement, “IndiGo is proud to announce the introduction of a new feature that aims to make the travel experience more comfortable for our female passengers.

“This has been introduced based on market research, and is currently in pilot mode aligning with our #GirlPower ethos.”
