Shaina Hurley, a former contestant on “Love Is Blind,” has bravely shared her shocking cancer diagnosis during pregnancy.
In an interview with People, she revealed that a routine pap smear at two months pregnant detected abnormal results, leading to a colposcopy and ultimately a Stage 2 cervical cancer diagnosis.
Despite the devastating news, Shaina chose to focus on survival and faith, trusting in God and praying for the best outcome.
She recalled feeling fear but refusing to let it consume her, instead opting for a positive and determined mindset.
“I felt the fear creeping in but I knew then and there, I can’t let the enemy take over my mind,” she recalled.
“I can’t go down that dark hole. I had to go into survival mode and tell God, ‘I trust you.’ I just prayed for the best, at the end of the day.”
The mom of one was advised to undergo a cold-knife biopsy to determine how far the cancer had spread and to remove what they could.
“The problem is, I was pregnant. [The] cervix is what holds pregnancy. I was at just around three months and so I would most likely lose the baby,” Hurley told the outlet.
“At that point, I just couldn’t risk it.”
Despite doctors’ recommendations, she declined chemotherapy at 22 weeks pregnant because the cancer “hadn’t spread to the lymph nodes” and she “had no symptoms.”
“It was hard for the doctors because I was their patient first. And I was a tough patient,” she said, adding that doctors then advised her to induce labor at 32 weeks.
“I felt it was too early,” the influencer said. “I took the risk and pushed it to 37-and-a-half weeks and delivered a healthy baby boy”.
Hurley and her husband, Christos Lardakis, welcomed their son on Feb. 1, 2024, after previously experiencing a miscarriage.
Shortly after delivery, Shaina experienced a mini-seizure while feeding Yiorgos but made a speedy recovery.
A month later, she underwent another surgery but unfortunately, the cancer persisted.
