Jessica Alba, known for her roles as an actress, entrepreneur, wife, and mother, takes on various roles, but her role as a devoted daughter holds special significance to her.
Sharing on Instagram, the “Fantastic Four” star expressed her heartfelt connection to a home renovation project, stating, “Almost three years ago, I started the project of my dreams.”
She surprised her parents by purchasing a house, which held extra sentimental value as it was her father’s childhood home, previously belonging to her grandparents.
Alba’s grandparents, who hailed from Mexico, brought up Alba’s father, Mark, in Claremont, California, just a 40-minute drive east of Los Angeles.
In a YouTube video accompanying the project, Alba shared, “It was a house that my grandfather, considering where he came from, this [was] his symbol that he made it.”
She emphasized the significance of the home as a place where her grandfather could provide his children with opportunities beyond what other neighbourhoods or cities could offer.
Reflecting on her family’s situation, Alba mentioned in her Instagram post, “After my grandfather passed away, my parents were planning on selling the house to cover my grandmother’s medical bills.”
She further detailed her grandmother’s need for constant care in the YouTube video.
“I acted like I was going to assist in flipping it before selling, but in reality, I had planned to buy it for them all along,” the 43-year-old shared.
“Just rewatching this trailer fills me with so many emotions – from keeping this big secret, surprising my parents, to months of hard work to perfect the house.”
“I can’t believe it all came together. Grampers, this is for you—we love and miss you more than you know,” she said, remembering her late grandfather.
In the YouTube video, Alba surprises her parents with the news. “Dad is shaking right now, you should know, Jessica,” her brother, Josh, remarked as the family embraced.
“[Your grandfather] would be proud of you, Jessica,” Mark tearfully told his daughter. “He was so proud of you.”
Alba, the founder of the billion-dollar brand The Honest Company, recently launched a renovation series with friend Lizzy Mathis.
The show focuses on renovating homes for parents with inadequate spaces. The renovation of her grandparents’ home preceded the television program.
