How Did Shannon Wilsey Die?

Shannon Wilsey was an actress in the adult film industry and one of the many celebrities featured in the Hulu documentary Kid 90. Born on October 9, 1970, in Laguna Beach, California, Shannon grew up in Texas with her mother and then lived with her father before moving to Mission Viejo to live with her grandparents where she became a high school cheerleader.

When Shannon Wilsey was only two years old, her parents got divorced. Shannon confided in her manager, Nancy Pera, that she had an unhappy childhood and was sexually molested. This experience is common among women who work in the sex industry as research suggests that many of them were also abused during their childhood.

She later adopted the stage name Savannah when she began appearing in films such as The Invisible Maniac (1990) and Camp Fear (1991).

Tragically, Shannon Wilsey ended her life on July 11, 1994. She had been in a car crash earlier that morning and called her manager Nancy Pera for help. When Nancy arrived to take Wilsey to the hospital, she had already shot herself with a gun she kept at home. Wilsey was taken to the hospital and placed on life support, but her injuries were too severe for her to recover and she was removed from life support by her father. Her death was ruled as a suicide.

Shannon Wilsey’s memory lives on in Kid 90, and her story serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness. Her death remains one of many tragic reminders that speak to the prevalence of depression in our society today. We can only hope that her life and struggles will inspire others to seek help when they are feeling overwhelmed by their own emotions.
