Honoring the King of Blues: B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100

To celebrate the legendary American blues singer B.B. King’s 100th birthday, a star-studded lineup of rockers has united to release “B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100” – a tribute album produced by blues rock artist Joe Bonamassa. Featuring 32 new covers of King’s greatest hits, the album officially launched today.

Among the artists featured on the album is English rocker and guitarist Eric Clapton. Together with the iconic Chaka Khan, Clapton covers King’s famous song “The Thrill Is Gone.” Other notable names on the album include Slash, Train, Marcus King, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and more.

In an announcement shared on social media last Friday, Bonamassa expressed his gratitude for producing a tribute to his friend and mentor, B.B. King. He hopes the album, created in honor of King’s centennial birthday, is a fitting celebration of King’s influential legacy.

Clapton and King’s history dates back to the 1960s, with Clapton citing King as one of his early influences. Their first meeting reportedly took place in 1967 at Cafe Au Go-Go in New York City, where they jammed together. Their formal collaboration began in 1997 when Clapton featured on King’s re-recorded version of “Rock Me Baby.”

Their deep connection persevered over the years, culminating in the joint album “Riding with the King” in 2000, which won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2001. King shared his admiration for Clapton’s playing style, emphasizing their natural musical chemistry.

Despite King’s passing in 2015, Clapton continues to honor his friend’s enduring legacy as a blues music pioneer. Clapton acknowledged King’s unique ability to play the blues in a pure way, expressing gratitude for King’s influence on the music industry.

As we remember King on what would have been his 100th birthday, the release of “B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100” ensures that his impact on music continues to resonate.

As always, Eric Clapton and B.B. King’s timeless collaboration serves as a reminder of their musical prowess and the bond they shared throughout the years.
