Herpes: Facts You Need To know

Herpes seems to be the most googled sexually transmitted disease at the moment, especially because celebrity Usher,  is receiving law suits from women who claimed to have been infected by him.

But what do you know about Herpes?


The Herpes Simplex Virus is classified into two:

Type 1: HSV I: Oral Herpes, which presents with cold sores, fever, blisters around the mouth and the face.

Type 2: HSV II: Genital Herpes, which presents with sores and blisters around the genitals.

HSV can also be spread to the eyes causing a condition called HERPES KERATITIS.

There is no cure for the herpes virus as treatment only focuses on getting rid of sores and limiting outbreaks.

Even when using a condom, the virus can be passed to a partner from the uncovered skin.

Birth Acquired Herpes is a herpes virus infection that an infant gets while in the womb.

20% of men and 25% of women have herpes but 80% of them don’t know they have it.

People are more at risk at contracting HSV when they engage in risky sexual behaviour like multiple sex partners etc.

Signs of Herpes include: blistering sores in the mouth or genitals, pain during urination, itching, fever, Etc .
