Halle Berry is giving Adrien Brody a taste of his own medicine on the Oscars 2025 red carpet!
The duo recreated their famous Academy Awards kiss ahead of the ceremony, with Berry, 58, sharing a video of the moment on Instagram along with a playful caption.
“Surpriseee @adrienbrody!! I had to get some payback ,” she wrote.
This red carpet moment comes 22 years after Brody kissed an unsuspecting Berry at the 2003 Oscars. After winning Best Actor for The Pianist, Brody kissed Berry, who had presented the award.
“I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag,” he joked during his acceptance speech while looking at Berry, who appeared caught off guard and wiped her lips.
While the moment was initially laughed off, it has since drawn criticism. “We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing,” Brody, 51, told Variety earlier this month. “And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”
The official Academy Award Instagram also shared the kiss in a video showing Berry approaching the Brutalist actor, 51, with her arms open. She then planted a big kiss on Brody before they shared a warm embrace.
Despite the criticism, Berry has continued to support Brody. After his Golden Globe win in January, Brody celebrated on Instagram, and Berry commented, “Congratulations my friend. You are truly one of one!”
In a 2017 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Berry revealed more about the infamous moment, saying it was “not planned” and “I knew nothing about it” beforehand.
“I was like, ‘What the f— is happening right now?’ That is what was going through my mind,” said Berry, who’d made history with her Best Actress Oscar win the year prior. “And because I was there the year before and I know the feeling of being out of your body, I just f—— went with it. But I was like, ‘What the f— is going on right now?’ “
