Elle Macpherson Reveals Breast Cancer Journey 7 Years After Diagnosis

Elle Macpherson has shared her breast cancer journey publicly for the first time.

In a recent interview discussing her new book, Elle, the 60-year-old Australian supermodel revealed her experience with breast cancer after being diagnosed seven years ago.

“It was a shock, unexpected, confusing, and daunting in so many ways,” Macpherson, who is currently in remission, told Australian Women’s Weekly.

The supermodel recounted receiving the diagnosis of HER2 positive estrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma after a lumpectomy, leading to recommendations for cancer treatment, including a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

Macpherson embraced a holistic approach to her cancer treatment, steering clear of chemotherapy or pharmaceuticals.

She shared, “I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it.

“So, it was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen.”

In her book, Macpherson emphasized that there is no one-size-fits-all solution, highlighting the importance of finding the right path tailored to her individual needs.

“Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” she continued in the book.

“People thought I was crazy. But I knew I had to make a choice that truly resonated with me. To me, that meant addressing emotional as well as physical factors associated with breast cancer … and that took courage.”

In a later section of her book, Macpherson discussed the varied responses she received from her sons regarding her treatment, noting that her family, overall, was “extremely supportive.”

The supermodel revealed her current state of clinical remission, expressing, “I would say I’m in utter wellness. And I am!”

She emphasized that her well-being extended beyond physical health, encompassing emotional, spiritual, and mental aspects.

Reflecting on a previous cancer scare, Macpherson shared her realization about the importance of proper nutrition and supplements after a benign lump discovery in 2013.
